Care Values

If you are considering a career in care, the key to success is to examine your own values and attitude to work before making any decision.

All people who progress and do well in care are committed to devlivering a high quality service. They are keen to obtain the knowledge and skills needed to make sure the care they deliver is the best it can be.

What are the right values?

Your values are the things that are important to you - the characteristics and behaviours that motivate you and guide your decisions.

Everyone has their own personal values, and they can be quite different. Some people are competitive, while others value cooperation. Some people value adventure, while others prefer security.

For example, you may value honesty. This means you believe in being honest wherever possible and you think it’s important to say what you really think.

Or perhaps you value kindness. You jump at the chance to help other people, and you’re generous in giving your time and resources to worthy causes or to friends and family.

Values matter because you’re likely to feel happier if you’re living according to your values and to feel worse if you don’t. If you are working to your values you will be much more comfortable and will do a much better job.

So it is important be honest with yourself and make sure your own personal values are a good fit with those of a successful care worker.

If you can achieve this, then you have found your vocation, and job satisfaction should come naturally.
